Trying Riversol’s 15-Day Sample Pack: PART ONE

Guess what? I finally got my Riversol 15-Day Sample in the mail last weekend!

The sample that I ordered was for anti-ageing, sensitive skin. Riversol is a Canadian cosmetic company created by a respected dermatologist based in BC, Canada.

This first part will be a first impression review, and I will keep you updated as I try the products.

Packaging

The samples arrived in a bright Tiffany-blue package (pictured above) with a folder containing all the samples and when and how to use them. The samples included the daily moisturizing cream, refreshing gel cleanser, anti-ageing serum, and an exfoliating glycolic peel. There was also a handwritten note, which I thought was a really cute touch.

Product Claims

(Copied from Riversol’s website)

  • Reduces wrinkles and fine lines
  • Reduces dark spots, sun damage and uneven skin tone
  • Improves radiance and texture

Key Ingredients

Beta-Thujaplicin (Beta-T) – an antioxidant found in the Pacific red cedar tree, which helps to “fight free radicals, heal the skin and help reverse damage, calm inflammation, reduce the appearance of sun and age spots”.
I believe Riversol is the first Canadian skin care company to use BC’s Western red cedar tree extracts as a key ingredient and is found in all of Riversol’s products. β-thujaplicin has been widely studied for its antioxidant, anti-pigmentation, anti-melanogenic, anti-inflammatory, and natural antibiotic qualities (Riversol has also written about this ingredient, with the sources for these studies). Since my skin is so sensitive, I was the most reassured by a study that shows β-thujaplicin as a safe ingredient to treat children under the age of 7 with dermatitis (who would probably have even more sensitive skin than I do), and no apparent adverse reactions were observed. Vitamin E – an antioxidant that hydrates the skin and protects it from free radicals

Vitamin C – accelerates collagen growth and healing of tissue damage

Vitamin E is fat-soluble and is usually provided by sebum (fat) while vitamin C is water-soluble and is provided through dietary intake. Both vitamins are known for their photoprotection qualities, which protects the skin against free radical damage from UV by absorbing the energy from UV light. Sunlight (UV) is a primary cause for ageing skin, and these vitamins can help prevent photoaging.

Allantoin – extracted from comfrey plant or sugar beets, and has anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant properties

This herb is known for its moisturizing and soothing properties. Allantoin is widely used in cosmetics because it is very active even at low concentrations, and is non-irritating and non-toxic (so it is safe to use). It is also used to relieve chronic dermatitis symptoms due to its healing and anti-inflammatory properties.

AHA – a chemical exfoliant that helps remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin

According to a study, including AHAs into your skincare routine improves common signs of aging, such as wrinkles, skin texture, and elasticity – without any significant side effects.

Conclusion

I’ve heard some really good things about this product, so I’m pretty excited to try these free samples. The samples are split into three parts (days 1-5, 6-10, and 11-15) to allow you to slowly integrate these products into your skincare routine, which I will be splitting into three additional parts.

I will keep you updated as I try the products in the next 15 days!
